Environmental issues that occur in Indonesia are no less important than the issue of infrastructure development in Indonesia. In the midst of the haze crisis, environmental issues really need more attention from Jokowi as an Indonesia’s president. Indonesian people also hope that forest fires are not an “annual tradition” of Indonesia. Jokowi’s government has seemed to ignore the night sky in Sumatra which turned red due to forest fires that occurred in the area.
Jokowi’s government also seemed to ignore the haze that occurred in Kalimantan. And while it spreads to neighboring countries such as Malaysia and Singapore. The environmental crisis that occurred in Indonesia needs more attention from Jokowi. Cases of forest fires, drought, etc. that have occurred in various regions in Indonesia. This cannot be resolved only by hoping for direct assistance from God. These things need concrete action carried out directly by the Indonesian government.
The phenomenon of the red sky in Sumatra has shown a scale of indicators on how urgent and dangerous the case of forest fires that occurred there. Even during the day, the road was covered by haze from the forest fires. Coupled with the increase in lung and respiratory disease has become more than enough indicators.
Jokowi’s government has been focusing more on the development of the country’s infrastructure issues that aim to improve the Indonesian economy. However, this is not a reason for the Indonesian government to forget the issues that occur in Indonesia apart from political-economic issues.
As the government, Jokowi ideally should not only focus on one sector of development and forget about other sectors which are also important. Especially those that affect the safety of the Indonesian people themselves. If indeed economic development and infrastructure are very significant for Jokowi.
The environmental sector and the community’s response are not an appropriate trade-off for Indonesia. The fact that Malaysia and Singapore are not reluctant to weaken their country’s relations with Indonesia. This is a slap hard enough for the Jokowi government to start paying more attention to environmental problems that occur in Indonesia.
The impact caused by forest fires in Indonesia has had a major impact on Southeast Asian countries. Especially neighboring countries such as Singapore and Malaysia. Not only cover the areas of Sumatra and Kalimantan. However this haze generated from forest fires that occurred in the two regions also covered other countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, and other Southeast Asian countries.
Warning status in the area or even in neighboring countries had reached up to very unhealthy status. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Malaysia was able to detect that the danger level from the smog that spread reached 256 levels. This is the highest level experienced by Malaysia in the case of forest fires that occurred in recent times. The average MMR experienced by neighboring countries reached 154-160 levels. This level has been stated in the unhealthy category.
The Indonesian people hope that this “annual tradition” of forest fires can be resolved soon. The community from Idnplay poker also demands the government to give severe penalties to the perpetrators of forest fires that occurred in Indonesia. And be more pro-active in dealing with environmental problems in Indonesia.
